Overview of Site: This is just as it says..

Thoughts on this Site: Great Idea.  And some really good creative leadership thoughts that are presented.

We’ve collected the thoughts of 30 of the world’s most inspired creative professionals. Architects, designers, authors and leaders of iconic brands.

We asked them two questions: “What single example of design inspires you most?” and “What problem should design solve next?” Their answers might surprise you. But hopefully, they’ll all inspire you. Discover what they have to say. Then share your thoughts. After all, this is a conversation. We’d love for you to join.

Overview of this Video: Tim Brown (IDEO) gives a talk on what Design Thinking is and why it is important in this TED talk from 2009.

Thoughts on this Video: If you prefer to listen over reading, then this is a great way to get a shortened version of most of Tim’s written interviews on Design Thinking and the core of the Changed by Design book.  It is good stuff.  I especially like the section on the rise of the participatory systems.

Overview of Video: David Kelley talks with BusinessWeek about what Design Thinking really is and how they teach it at the d.school.

Thoughts about this video: The best point in the video is that Design Thinking is a method that really isn’t just thinking like a designer.  It can be applied to any area (even a dinner party!)

Overview of Video: Roger Martin, dean of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, talks with BusinessWeek about the design approach to solving problems and how to apply it to recent events, including the financial crisis.
Thoughts on this Video: Martins’ definition of Design Thinking hit me as odd initially, by made more sense as the interview progressed.  I don’t always think Design Thinking has to create a “model”.  However, his definition may be more suited to the business world than some others.

Overview of Video: This is a video of an online learning experience that was offered at the McKay School of Education on the basics of the Design Thinking Process.  The leader for the project is facilitator from the d.school at Stanford.

Thoughts on this Video:  This may be the best “short” look at what Design Thinking is and how to do it that I have come across.  If you can, find a way to participate in the activities that the facilitator leads.

Overview of this Video: The Power of collaboration is explored as the Future of Fish team is interviewed.

Thoughts on this Video: The concept of collaboration across disciplines has been around for a while, and can be very effective.  The FOF team is using this approach as part of the overall Design Thinking process, which gives it more strength.

Overview of Video: This is part of the Future of Fish series that gives an inside look at a non-product use of Design Thinking. In this video, the topic is about the team you assemble and what is important to consider in picking team members.

Thoughts on this Video: These guys are doing a very good job of documenting the process they are undertaking as they work to find a solution to the specific challenge they have taken on. I appreciate the desire to share HOW the process is working for them, and the quality of the information.

Thoughts: Surprisingly- one of the best 3 point talks on the topic!
